Food festivals happen all year round in Washington DC. Whether you are in town for business or pleasure, it is possible to find something at any time of the year. For a unique spin on a DC vacation, plan your visit around a food festival; pick your Washington DC hotel based on its proximity to one of these fun and delicious events!
The DMV, that’s the DC, Maryland and Virginia Food Truck Association not the dreaded motor vehicle building, hosts the Curbside Cookoff each September. Twenty of the DMV’s favorite food trucks gather to highlight their delicious and popular cuisine. Food truck chefs will take part in cook offs, and awards are given like “Best New Food Truck” and “Best Five Buck Bite”. Just five dollars will get you into the event where you can indulge in food truck bites, and watch the show.
This food and drink festival happens each September and celebrates fine foods, craft beer and good music. Snallygaster brings out over 250 craft beers from the region, and some of the top food trucks in the DC Metro area. The festival takes place at The Yards in downtown DC and will sell out, so get your tickets early! The best part of this gigantic festival is that it is one large fundraiser. Proceeds go to Arcadia, a non-profit that is working on providing a sustainable food system in DC. Feel good that you are drinking and eating for a good cause!
Taste of DC
October is the perfect time to visit Washington DC, the heat of the summer has dissolved and the snowy winter has yet to arrive. Right when the Fall season really kicks into gear, the Taste of DC Food Festival charges into town. For two days, over 40 DC restaurants and 20 food trucks set up shop on Pennsylvania Avenue between the White House and Capitol Building, dishing out their signature bites. Adding to the fun atmosphere, there are live performances all day, and the World Chili Eating Championship.
One Friday a month, between April and October, Truckeroo comes to the parking lot of Nationals Park. Bringing in about 20 food trucks, this monthly party has live music, outdoor games, refreshing drinks, and, of course delicious food. Admission is free, and a great place to go in the summer to taste the different food trucks of DC.
National Capital BBQ Battle
Kick off the summer the right way, with a good ol’ fashioned BBQ competition. Each June, The National Capital BBQ Battle puts DC BBQ chefs up against BBQ chefs from around the country. Enjoy demonstrations, food samples, and interactive displays geared toward kids. This event is so excellent, it has been one of the Top 10 BBQ Events in the country by the Travel Channel! The festival happens in June along historic Pennsylvania Avenue and costs just $12 to get in. Sampling some of the best BBQ dishes from around the country is the perfect way to start the summer!
