You need a vacation. Plain and simple.
You need time to relax and let loose. To escape the daily grind, and have new experiences.
But where to go?
You want more than a plane ticket. More than a window seat on a speeding bus. You want a meaningful experience. A local connection. An adventure.
What if I told you there is a place in the USA where adventure travelers go in their dreams?
Picture skiing the best powder on earth in the morning then scuba diving in the afternoon. Envision green meadows, streams, miles and miles of trails, reservoirs, state parks, craters, golf courses, and mountains.
Imagine no more. It’s all real in Heber Valley, Utah.
Get your heart pumping, experience nature, learn a new skill, or practice an old one. Don’t let your vacation pass you by. Get out there and have an adventure.
If lying on the beach with a cold cocktail on your hand is your idea of a perfect vacation; a trip to central Utah probably isn’t for you. But if you’re craving more, let me suggest one of these incredible adventures in Heber Valley.
Hit the Trails – Go for a Hike
Hiking is my favorite thing to do when I travel.
Exercise. Check. Amazing views. Check. A feeling of accomplishment. Check.
There are no bad things about it. There is also no shortage of hiking in Heber Valley. Choose between Wasatch Mountain State Park and Mirror Lake Scenic Byway (or go to both!). Don’t forget your cameras. Besides snapping the amazing scenery, chances are you will see some wildlife!
Ski the Best Powder on Earth at Deer Valley
If you’re headed to Heber Valley in the winter – don’t forget to pack those skis! You will not want to miss fresh turns through the Utah snow. The Utah ski industry motto, “The Greatest Snow on Earth”, is 100% accurate. The snow is not too light and not too heavy, exactly the consistency you want for a great ski experience. Plus, they get a lot of it!
Deer Valley happens to be one of my favorite Utah ski resorts. Some of my best childhood memories involve racing my siblings down the lengthy runs of Deer Valley. Sadly (or not) no snowboarders allowed here.
Dive Deep in the Homestead Crater
How do you feel about diving the warmest waters in the continental US? Pretty sweet. How about swimming inside a mountain under the ground? Epic. That’s what you get at the Homestead Crater. A geothermal spring hidden inside a 55 foot tall limestone rock. It’s the only warm water Scuba diving spot in the US and available to you on your Heber Valley Vacation.
Cross Country Ski through Solider Hollow
If you’ve never gone cross country skiing, let me tell you…it’s a workout! Get your heart pumping through the 20 miles of trails in Soldier Hollow. There are easy groomed trails if you’re a newbie, and harder terrain if you want a good challenge.
Catch a Fish on the Provo River
Trout, bass, whitefish, and carp are all found in the Provo River. And are yours for the taking when you go on a fishing adventure in Utah. My experience with fishing involves sitting on a boat, drinking a beer, and waiting. A Heber Valley fishing excursion can be that…and more. With one of the best blue ribbon trout streams in the country, it’s a great place to try your hand at fly fishing.
Play a Round of Golf
While golfing is not a typical choice for me…the men in my family swear by it. And they would be happy with the golfing scene in Heber Valley. There are five unique courses to choose from; all with backdrops that will make your jaw drop. Perhaps even enticing those of you who scoff at the idea of golf to give it a go.
Get an Adrenaline Boost on a Snow Tubing Adventure
Who says snow tubing is just for kids? After a day of activity, let loose by zooming down one of the longest tubing lanes in Utah in Soldier Hollow. It’s a well organized activity for everyone in your family, both day and night.
Go for a Bike Ride
Whatever kind of bike you choose to mount – road, mountain, tandem (why not?!) – there is a route for you. Make your way through canyons, along dirt and paved roads, or follow a historic rail trail.
Embrace Your Inner Cowboy on a Horseback Riding Adventure
If your butt can handle it, experience the beauty of the valley from the back of a horse. Perhaps you’ll have a personal discovery as you connect with a horse in nature. It’s possible you’ll live out a childhood dream of being a cowboy. Or maybe you’ll just have a great time riding through the mountains and along the reservoirs. There are many outfitters throughout Heber Valley that offer horseback riding excursions.
Get Active on the Water
Water activities in Utah? Say what?! Oh yes.
There are two reservoirs in Heber Valley (Jordanelle and Deer Creek) perfect for the water loving folks out there. Windsurfing, waterskiing, boating, tubing, jetskiing, kayaking and paddleboarding are all available to you. I want to do them all.
Lucky for you, on top of all the incredible adventures, Heber Valley is easy to get to – just 50 minutes from Salt Lake City.
The lush, mountain-bound Heber Valley is where you want to plan that vacation if adventure is what you are after.
So what are you waiting for?
