Korea. The land of quirky cafes, strange museums, and….a sex theme park.
This reserved and conservative country, where children live with their parents until marriage, and the topic of sex is taboo, an entire theme park dedicated to sex seems a bit out of the ordinary. Though if I have learned anything from my time in Korea is that you never know what to expect!
Jeju Island Loveland is promoted as the only sexual theme park in all of South Korea (though I’m not entirely sure how many sexual theme parks there should be?). The island of Jeju, is the honeymoon destination in Korea, and so throwing in a sex theme park for recently wed couples seems kind of fitting.
in 2004, a group of art students from Hongik University in Seoul created 140 erotic sculptures in an effort to “break the traditional taboos surrounding sex” and highlight “the natural beauty of sexuality”. And so, Loveland was born.
For me, a walk around this theme park brought more curious head turns and “hmmms” then any sexual enlightenment. It sure was one of the most interesting places I have been in Korea.
Without further ado (and your last warning!) here are 19 photos of Loveland:
Which one of these fellas entices you to fill your water bottle?!
This one was called something like, “a man and his best friend”.
Sculptures are not the only pieces of art at Loveland, there were murals covering some of the walls with strange scenes painted across them.
Ah, digging for clams?
Even the bathrooms got in on the action. Note the door handles.
We spent a quick 45 minutes or so in Loveland, not much time is needed to get the gist and see everything there is to see! It definitely was a unique and satisfying experience!
